Enjoy a Traditional and Comforting Beef Bourguignon

Introduction

Beef Bourguignon is a classic French dish that's perfect for fall evenings. It offers rich, comforting flavors that will delight your guests. Here's a simple recipe for this iconic dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of beef (shoulder or leg) cut into cubes
  • 150 g of bacon
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 carrots, cut into rounds
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 750 ml of red wine (Burgundy preferably)
  • 500 ml beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 sprigs of thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Meat preparation : In a large casserole dish, heat a little olive oil. Add the bacon and brown it. Remove and set aside.
  2. Sear the beef : In the same pot, add the beef cubes and sear on all sides until nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cooking the vegetables : Add the onions, carrots and garlic to the casserole dish. Sauté for 5 minutes.
  4. Final Mix : Return the beef and bacon to the casserole, sprinkle with flour, mix well, then add the wine and stock. Add the bay leaves and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Simmering : Cover and simmer over low heat for about 2 hours, until the meat is tender.
  6. Finishing : Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley. Accompany with potatoes or crusty bread.

Trick

For an even richer taste, prepare the Beef Bourguignon the day before and reheat it before serving.
